If the iPhone/iPad turns on but locks up during startup
- Firstly, connect the iPhone/iPad to your computer. On a Mac with macOS Catalina, open the Finder. On a Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier, or a PC, open iTunes.
- Secondly, find your Apple device on the computer.
- Now, after connecting the device, do the following:
- On iPhone 8 or later, and iPhone SE (2nd generation): Briefly press the volume up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Then press and hold the side button.
- On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Side button and the Volume down button at the same time.
- On an iPhone 6s or earlier, and iPhone SE (1st generation): Press and hold the Home button and the Side button or the Top button at the same time.
- On an iPad without a Home button: Briefly press the Volume Up button. Press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Press and hold the Top button until your device restarts. Press and hold the top button.
- On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold both the Home button and the Top button.
- At this moment, press and hold the buttons until you see the Recovery Mode screen.
- When the option to Restore or Update appears, select Update.
- In the final part, the computer will download the software for iPhone/iPad. If it takes more than 15 minutes, the iPhone/iPad will exit Recovery Mode. Repeat steps 2-4.
