What is “other” on Mac storage?

Have you ever had a time when your hard disk space was full? As a result, you were not able to save any new photos or videos that were valuable souvenirs for you? Today we would like to tell you about a tip that will allow you to free up some disk space to successfully save new files.

Have you seen the Mac ‘Other’ section? Do you know how much disk space this could be taking up? Mac’s Other section contains various types of files that do not fall into any specific storage category (movies, photos, music, applications, email).

Usually, the Mac ‘Other’ section contains unnecessary files which only take up disk space. The ‘Other’ section may collect such types of files as, for example, .doc, .pdf, .psd, .zip, .dmg, system caches, browser caches, chunks, application plug-ins, and similar files, and not belonging to any from the category of movies, photos, music, applications or email. So, check what is in the ‘Other’ folder and successfully free up unnecessarily overloaded disk space gaining additional space for photos or videos.

How to check what is on the Mac ‘Other’ storage?

  1. First of all, open the Apple menu.
  2. In the next step, go to the About This Mac.
  3. Now, click Storage.
  4. At this moment, you will be able to see how much space the ‘Other’ is taking.
  5. To optimize the storage, click the Manage button and sort out the files that are no longer needed.
